Southwest 737 blows 2 tires on takeoff from Sacramento

The were some anxious moments for fliers on a Southwest Airlines flight from Sacramento Tuesday evening.

Gannett station KXTV-TV of Sacramento has the story, writing:

The left main tires blew as Southwest flight 2287 departed at about 6:15 p.m. PT for Seattle, said Laurie Slothower, Sacramento International Airport spokeswoman. Five crewmembers and 130 passengers were on board.

The pilot quickly aborted the takeoff and emergency crews were called in to hose down the 737 as a precautionary measure, Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Katie McDonald said. They later set up a portable stairway to let the passengers off the plane.

"There was no fire, there were no injuries," Slothower said. "The passengers were safely evacuated from the plane using the stairs as they would on a routine flight."
